Sponsorship to help clean up Ipswich’s waterways
Thiess Services and Thiess Queensland have pledged a collective sponsorship of $20,000 to an International Riverfoundation project to rejuvenate the Bremer River.
The Bremer River runs through the Southeast Queensland city of Ipswich and received an F quality grading, the worst grading possible, in the most recent Southeast Queensland Healthy Waterways Partnership survey.
International Riverfoundation Executive Officer Kellie Frederiks said the sponsorship would fund identification “hot spot” areas of pollution in the river that would be targeted first by clean up works.
Kellie said by addressing the “hot spots”, the overall health of the river catchment could be improved by up to 80 percent.
Addressing the health of the Bremer River will be the central topic of discussion at a forum in Ipswich on Thursday, 15 April, hosted by Ipswich City Council, International Riverfoundation, International WaterCentre and International Water Forum. The forum is part of Ipswich’s 150 year celebrations.
The International Riverfoundation is an independent waterways protection group founded from Brisbane’s Riverfestival. Thiess and Thiess Services have demonstrated a long-term commitment to environmental sustainability through ongoing sponsorship of the Brisbane Riverfestival and National and International Thiess Riverprizes.
