Listening to our project stakeholders and local communities and understanding their needs is important to us.
We carefully consider stakeholder and community feedback. This enables us to enhance project design, construction and operations to ensure minimal disruption and exceptional outcomes for the community.
We aim to foster long-term relationships with our neighbours and encourage consultation about our operations. We support the communities in which we work beyond the use of goods and services by providing relevant educational programs and contributing to community events.
Community Activities
1 Coast, 1 World, Don't Waste it!, Central Coast, NSW
Thiess Services manages one of the largest waste and recycling management contracts in Australia for the Gosford City and Wyong Shire Councils on the Central Coast of NSW. To help residents better understand the waste collection system and communicate with their waste contractor, Thiess Services, in conjunction with the Gosford City and Wyong Shire Councils, has developed the community program 1 Coast, 1 World, Don’t waste it! The program involves a variety of educational activities for school and community groups designed to encourage people to manage their waste more proactively.
Further information about 1 Coast, 1 World, Don’t waste it! can be found at the Project website http://www.1coast.com.au
Rhodes Community Consultative Committee (RCCC), Sydney, NSW
Thiess Services is conducting remediation works on contaminated former industrial sites on the Rhodes Peninsula in inner-western Sydney, NSW.
The local community played an important role in the planning and approval stages of the Rhodes Remediation Projects and continues to be involved during the works phase through the Rhodes Community Consultative Committee (RCCC). The committee meets monthly to review project progress reports and environmental monitoring data and to provide feedback to Thiess Services project team members.
Swanbank Community Reference Group, Swanbank, QLD
Thiess Services owns and operates Australia’s largest engineered waste management facility (WMF) at Swanbank, near Ipswich, on the western outskirts of Brisbane. An important aspect of Thiess Services’ operations at Swanbank is the engagement of the local community through the Swanbank Community Reference Group (SCRG). Elected committee members represent various sections of the community, including local government, schools, local businesses, including energy provider CS energy, environmental groups and Thiess Services.
The group meets regularly to discuss issues involving the WMF and neighbouring CS Energy power station and how Thiess Services can maintain a beneficial relationship with the people, environment and economy of the Swanbank area.
