2000 Sydney Olympics Site Remediation, Homebush Bay, NSW, Australia
The last major remediation project undertaken in preparation for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games involved extensive remediation works on a former landfill site adjacent to the Sydney International Sports Centre at Homebush.
The project included removal of 120,000 cubic metres of waste, excavation and reinstatement of the site, construction of a multi-layered capping system, installation of a gas collection system, leachate drains, stormwater drainage works, and landscaping.

Thiess Services was responsible for remediation of the site upon which the Aquatic Centre was built for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
The project involved ex-situ containment of 110,000 cubic metres of hazardous waste in two below ground double-lined secure landfills.
Thiess Services was responsible for design of the containment structure, preparation of the Remedial Action Plan, environmental monitoring, and validation.
